Om My Yoga Academy Frequently Asked Questions

What style of yoga do you teach?

Though many styles of yoga are discussed, students will learn to teach vinyasa yoga.  This is a flowing style that is appropriate for a wide range of students including those who are brand new and experienced yogis.  We also briefly cover prenatal, children's and senior yoga.  Our final module focuses on restorative and yin yoga--more deeply held, prop supported postures.

What is the difference between the 200 and 300 Hour programs?

The 200 hour program consists of six consecutive "modules".  Each module builds upon the other, laying information about the physical practice of the  poses, anatomy, and alignment.  As we build that knowledge base, we also learn breathing practices, meditations, yoga history and philosophy to create a well-rounded yoga education that is built on the "Eight Limbs of Yoga".

Someone graduating from the 200 Hour program would then be qualified to register as a 200-RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) through Yoga Alliance. Most people who have come through our 200 Hour program have decided to teach yoga.  But for various reasons, some people choose to take that path without the goal of teaching in mind.

In contrast, the 300 Hour program is both continuing, advanced education for graduates of the 200 Hour program, and an opportunity for those not on the teacher training path to take individual workshops of personal interest.  For someone who is already a 200-RYT (regardless of whether they've received that training from Om My Yoga Academy or elsewhere), they can take the 300 Hour training to cumulatively be recognized as a 500-RYT from Yoga Alliance.

While anyone who is interested can take any of the 300 Hour workshops, someone on track to becoming a 500-RYT would want to take 14 workshops to qualify for their certification.  Someone could do this by taking all of the workshops offered consecutively, or by spreading out their education over a longer period of time.

What is the cost for the 200 Hour Program?

$425 per module (six total modules). This includes manuals for each module. Each Module can be paid for one at a time, or you can choose a discounted advanced payment option--the Complete Training or the Deluxe Package. *

The Complete Training, paid in advance is $2,295-- a savings of 10% overall. Includes manuals for each Module. **

The Deluxe Package is $2,500. Includes manuals for each Module, all ten required books, an Om My Yoga Academy t-shirt and essential oil trio. This represents a 10% overall discount on the training, 20% off on the required books and discounted t-shirt and essential oils.**

* a $200 non-refundable deposit is required 1 month prior to the start of training.  This will be credited to you final module, making the cost of your final module $225.*

** Once the training begins, this is non-refundable.  In the event of an emergency that doesn't allow you to finish, you are welcome to rejoin any missed workshops the following year.**

What is the cost for the 300 Hour Program?

$325 per workshop. There is a $350 discount if you pay for all 14 workshops in advance. That total is $4,200. So that would bring your savings to $350 and a total investment of $4,200. We also offer Early Bird pricing ($300) for each workshop - this option expires 6 weeks prior to the workshop start date.

When do I have to pay for the module/workshop?

For most workshops, you may register early for a training without payment, to indicate your intent to participate. But until you have paid, your reservation is not guaranteed. Payment must be made at least 30 days prior to the module/workshop to guarantee your spot. We do anticipate filling each workshop, so it's best to make your payment as soon as possible.
Late registrations (less than a month prior to the workshop) require payment upon registration.
Workshops with special guest teachers, such as the Leslie Kaminoff, requires payment in advanced to register.

Do I have to take all 14 workshops for the 300 Hour Program?

To be qualified for your 500 RYT, you would need to take them all, yes. But if you only take a few you are still adding to your overall education. You do NOT have to pursuing your 500 RYT to take these workshops.

Do I have to take all 14 workshops consecutively?
No. Unlike the 200 hour program which is designed to be taken in sequence, the 300 hour program can be taken in any order.

How long will it take to get my 500 hour certification?

Assuming you are already a 200 RYT, and are enrolled in the 300 hour program, it could take you as little as eleven months if you took all 14 of the initial workshops offered, the first time they are offered. You could, however stretch out your 300 hours over the course of two or more years, as workshops are offered again and new workshops added.

Do you have to be a 200 RYT to take the 300 hour workshops? Are there any prerequisites?

The 300 hour workshops are open to anyone who is interested. Even people without a 200 RYT. Those people would just be taking the workshops for personal knowledge, rather than to teach. Yoga Teachers are also welcome to take individual workshops to earn their CECs.

Some workshops benefit from prior knowledge of certain subjects. For instance, the "Anatomy of the Breath" workshop with Leslie Kaminoff requires some anatomy knowledge--whether through a prior yoga training or other similar anatomy training.

Can I take some 300 hour workshops through another school and still get my 500 RYT?

No. Yoga Alliance, which is the organization that creates these designations, requires that all 300 hours be taken from the same yoga school.

How are the 300 hours tracked?
You must keep track of the workshops that you've taken, and when you have completed 14, let us know so that we can prepare a certificate for you. That certificate is then submitted to Yoga Alliance, who will then confirm with us that you have completed the 300 hours necessary to qualify for the 500 RYT.

What if I miss a 200 hour module?

If you miss a day, or a portion of a day, we will do our best to help you make up the material. You are required to write one page for each hour of training that is missed. The content of this writing depends on the nature of what was covered while you were gone.

If you miss more than one day out of a module or the entire 3 days, you will need to make that up the next time it's offered in order to receive your 200 RYT certification from Yoga Alliance.

Do I have to take all of the 200 Hour modules? Do I have to take them in order?

Signing up for the 200 Hour program means making a commitment to all six modules. Each module builds on the others, so they are taken sequentially. See the question above if you have to miss one module.

Can I teach before I become a 200 RYT?

Yes. Typically students who are interested in teaching start well before the training ends. There is no moral, ethical or legal reason that you can not teach, as long as you are not promoting yourself as a 200 RYT.

Where can I find a job teaching yoga?

Many places are looking for yoga teachers. School groups, churches, recreation centers, senior centers, mom's groups, clubs, etc. are all looking for teachers. Because it is widely know that produce high-caliber yoga teachers, I am frequently contacted by organizations looking for teachers. I always post those job offers to our Academy group page. And of course, you can start your own private practice or business!

What if I miss a 300 hour workshop?

14 is the total number of workshops required to be considered a 500 RYT by Yoga Alliance. You are expected to take a mix of philosophical and physically based workshops. More workshops will be added over time, and some of those that have already happened or are currently scheduled will be repeated as well. You can apply with Yoga Alliance for your 500 RYT when you have taken 14 workshops.

How do I register?

You can always ask me for help, but you can also sign up online through these links:

300 hour Program

I "Joined" the facebook event for the training. Am I registered?

No. Please register through the links above.

Who is teaching?

Rachel is still the lead trainer. But several other experts are coming to lend their unique talents and wisdom. Rachel's husband, Ulysses, assists during the 200 hour training, and co-leads the Arm Balances and Inversions workshop. Kerry Harling will bring us the science of Ayurveda. Dr. Christine Kiesinger will discuss The Yoga of Communication, as well as assisting Rachel with Yoga Therapy and possibly The Energetic Anatomy. Nadya Matychak will help with Yin. Carla Irvin will be leading the Advanced Postural Alignment and Class Sequencing workshops.

Om My Yoga Academy is especially excited to welcome Leslie Kaminoff, author of "Yoga Anatomy" for workshop on Anatomy of the Breath and Deborah Adele, author of "The Yamas and Niyamas" for a workshop on Yoga History and Philosophy.

Are the workshops in Camp Hill? Where is that located?

Yes. The address is 4407 Carlisle Pike, Camp Hill, PA.

Is there parking in Camp Hill?

Yes. We have free on-site parking.

What days/hours are the modules/workshops held?

The 200 hour program is Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The 300 hour is Saturdays and Sunday.
All events run from 8:30am to 5:30pm with a break for lunch.

Will there be homework/reading for the 300 hour program?

The total number of contact hours for the taking 14 workshops only comes to about 252 hours. The remaining hours to make up the 300 hour requirement to become a 500 RYT will be made up through reading assignments and homework, just like the 200 hour program. There is no big test, no huge paper to write.

Are there manuals for each workshop?

I've taken Rachel's Aerial Yoga workshops. Are they part of the 300 hour training?

Yes! For those focusing on Aerial Yoga as part of their 300 hour training, each Aerial Yoga Level will replace one 300 hour workshop. Students can choose which ones to replace but should talk to a mentor or team member to discuss the best plan about what to miss based on their strengths and needs. So if you took Level 1 and Level 2, you would need to take 12 more workshops. If you took all four Aerial levels, you'd have 10 workshops to take.

I don't see an Aerial Yoga training listed. Is there going to be another Aerial Yoga training?

The next Aerial Yoga teacher training is now scheduled for the following dates:

Module 1 - June 1-3, 2018
Module 2 - September 7-9, 2018
Module 3 - February 1-3, 2019

Please, click here to sign up for Module 1, 2 or 3. Note: Modules need to be attended in sequence to complete this training.

I've done the Aerial Yoga training, but I haven't completed a 200 RYT. Can I do the 300 hour program? Can I do the 200 RYT program?

Yes to both! We are starting our next 200 RYT program in September 2017. If you are interested let us know and we'll share more with you. You can take the 300 hour workshops at the same time you are completing a 200 RYT, if you'd like.
